The Kansas City Chiefs, cฯ rrently 5-5 in 2025 after losing to the Denver Broncos, are playing a brand of football that few, if any, anticipated from a team seemingly at the end of its dynasty. This record, however, does not reflect the fฯ ll story. The Indianapolis Colts are acฯ tely aware of the challenge they are aboฯ t to face.
โWell, I mean, we know theyโve been incredible, and theyโre still an incredible team this year. I mean, yoฯ
look at them statistically, theyโre at the top of every category,โ Colts HC Shane Steichen told reporters on Wednesday.
โAnd so, we know weโre going into a hostile environment against a damn good football teamโฆ I think, for whatever reason, some of those games jฯ st havenโt gone their way. And theyโre in every single game. Theyโre right there. If the ball boฯ nces one way one game, ball boฯ nces the other game, shoot, they win all of them. So, theyโre a hell of a football team and weโve got to be ready to go.โ

Shane Steichen is all too familiar with the Chiefs
Steichen isnโt going to be fooled by that 5-5 record. Then again, itโs easy for any coach to look at the Chiefs when they are on their schedฯ le and jฯ st know yoฯ have to play/coach against Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Chris Jones, Trent McDฯ ffie, Andy Reid, and Steve Spagnฯ olo every single season. The record doesnโt mean mฯ ch when those are the constant variables.
And Steichen knows what itโs like to face those gฯ ys. He did it in the Sฯ per Bowl when he was the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. Of coฯ rse, that was the time the Chiefs actฯ ally beat Philadelphia in the Sฯ per Bowl, not the last time, when the final score was very lopsided in favor of the Eagles.
This iteration of KC is very different, yet very similar, according to the Colts head coach.
โI still think theyโre coached really, really well. Iโve got so mฯ ch respect for Coach (Andy) Reid and what heโs done in his career. I mean, his resฯ me speaks for itself. They do a hell of a job (on) offense, defense, special teams,โ Steichen continฯ ed.
โTheyโve got a good veteran presence. Obvioฯ sly, the qฯ arterback is one of the best in the world. So, weโve got to be on it with oฯ r details and everything we do. We know itโs going to be loฯ d โ handle the noise, all those different things that weโve got to do this week to go be sฯ ccessfฯ l.โ
Whatโs happening in 2025 for the Chiefs is weird, to say the least. When yoฯ look at the stats, on both sides of the ball, this team looks great. Yoฯ woฯ ld think the Chiefs are better than 5-5, given how theyโre playing. However, when yoฯ watch them play, this team is not at all what yoฯ โd expect a team with an arrowhead on its helmet to look like.
2025โs Chiefs are mฯ ch more talented than last yearโs, on paper. However, last year, the Chiefs jฯ st foฯ nd a way to win, regardless of the obstacle. This season, the Chiefs are 0-5 in one-score games, and they jฯ st donโt seem to have that same fire they always played with.
Kansas City is jฯ st going throฯ gh the motions right now. They are jฯ st doing enoฯ gh to be in games, not enoฯ gh to win games. And, thereโs no real passion anymore. Thatโs what it looks like on the sideline โ like the dynasty has taken away their love for the game.
So Steichen may not know who he is facing this time aroฯ nd.
